Local Initiatives for Environmental Sustainability (LIFE'S) is a non – political, not for profit research based non-governmental organization (NGO). It was established in February 24th, 2000, as a platform for advocating collaborative actions and commitments in support of the world’s natural resources through grassroots empowerment, development and entrepreneurial capacity development for communities.

In consonance with global trends, we promote positive change towards patterns of development that are ecologically sustainable, economically viable and socially equitable. It aims are to promote values and systems that will strengthen advocacy, green opportunities, and dialogue.

Vulnerable communities, varnishing ecosystems, poor environmental governance have also become a source of conflicts which if not adequately and timely addressed resolved may erupt into a massive conflict immersing the nation on the path of destruction.

We at LIFE'S are of firm conviction that the issue of sustainable development and implementation of Agenda 21 as agreed upon at the Earth Summit can only be fully addressed if local, national and international perspectives are linked to develop suitable action plans. This scenario is only possible when stakeholders are empowered socially, economically and educationally and allowed to evolve and apply their own strategies to development issues.

LIFE'S also believes strongly in the linkages between research and policies on sustainable development, community empowerment and use of local knowledge and approaches for promoting sustainable utilization of natural resources. Although, increasingly, citizens demonstrate a certain fatalism and resignation regarding their participation in decision making processes that governs their live our goal is to engender an inclusive process that will allow ordinary people, especially the poor, women and other vulnerable groups become active participants in the development process
